What qualifies for this scheme
Counties Approved
Donegal, Mayo, Clare, Limerick and Sligo. This is a county by county scheme. We are being contacted by homeowners in other counties but unfortunately there is no available help for them at present but we continue to lobby for this scheme to be changed from a county by county scheme to a countrywide scheme.
Principal Primary Residence
The scheme is open to those who own and live in their affected property. You must live in this property until you get approval for option one, full demolition or if you are on the scheme and your home becomes unsafe to live in you can move out but you must be already registered on the scheme to be able to continue with your grant application.
Homeowners who bought after January 2020 are not eligible for the scheme but this can be waived if it can be proven you were unaware of the issue before you purchased the property. Liaise with your building conditions assessor/Building Professional on this.
Detached garages and boundary walls are not covered under the current scheme.
Second Homes/Rentals
You can apply for one rental property as well as your own principal private residence. This rental property must be registered with the RTB (Rental Tenancy Board) on or before the 1st of November 2021. This property is subject to a 20 year claw back – if you sell the property after it is remediated you will have to pay a percentage of the grant you received back to the government for up to 20 years after works are completed. The sooner you sell, the more you must pay back.
