Mental Health Supports

Back to Focus Groups Overview

This group will work together to research the mental health impacts of the Defective Blocks Crisis on people and families to help get supports in place.

Our goal is to see the roll out of many supports for all age groups in the county whether directly or indirectly affected by this slow moving chronic disaster.

Our Mental Health and Youth Focus Group will collaborate with many professionals and experts, schools, youth organisations, and colleges to understand the level of impact of this crisis on people and families.  We are proud to also be a part of a multidisciplinary research group which will work collaboratively with Insight Inishowen. We are also willing to support any local Universities and researchers in their independent investigation of the extent of the impact’.

Researching and developing mental health supports for adults, children and young people and finding a way for these supports to be put in place with resources to be given to various organisations and schools throughout the county.

Mental Health Impact Group FAQs

Are there any supports currently available in our area for defective blocks people and families?

Currently there are free counselling sessions available from Inishowen Development Partnership, MyMind.ie and Insight Inishowen. Insight Inishowen also provides one to one Art Therapy classes free of charge for those affected by the crisis. We would like to add all available supports to our website, please get in touch if you know of any free supports in your area and throughout Donegal.

What are this group doing to help get supports in place?

We are actively engaging with government – local and national, local schools, organisations, among others to pursue supports and resources needed for young people to help them through this crisis now and for many years to come. There is so much work to be done if we are going to get the supports in place that are needed. If you think you can help we would really appreciate it

What about support for schools and the workplace, for both teens and adults?

There are now two courses and two workshops available to employers, schools, community groups and youth organisations to help staff and students and those throughout the community living through the Defective Block Crisis.
