Working together to rebuild Donegal in the most beneficial, efficient, innovative and cost effective ways.

trades-group
In its very early days this group is working on first deciphering the best way forward.

As you will see from the extensive list of issues below it is clear we will need a lot of help for various groups and teams to be formed to help solve the many issues we face in this sector.

As soon as we have answers and as this group becomes more established, we will have informative answers in the FAQ section below.

Until then though, this section of our website is “UNDER CONSTRUCTION”. Please have a look at the issues we face below and join this group if you can help with any part of it.

Working together to find the most beneficial, efficient, innovative and cost effective ways to rebuild Donegal.

TRADES, CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING GROUP FAQs

What kinds of issues in this sector will this group be looking into?

Gaining a workforce, how to increase it, incentives?
Housing for this workforce
How many homes will be processed each year and will this match the workforce needed?
Specific task and information teams to be put in place to work together on various issues like; Skilled teams to uninstall, wrap and store items such as bathware, built in wardrobes and kitchens, skirting etc then return to remove from storage, unwrap and reinstall. Overpricing/price gouging. Costings – examples of costings for each house type or even small, medium and large. Rebuild options/ house types. Energy efficiency. Lists of available contractors/tradespeople and building professionals for people to contact. Who compiles the list and keeps it updated?. Heating systems ..air to water? Oil? Kitchens, bathware costs etc. Factual and simple information so that people can make informed decisions as too much conflicting and confusing information is being put out there about how things work/efficiency and the genuine true costs of these things.
Innovation
Collaboration
Efficient and cost effective building solutions through coop? Bulk buying?
Self builds. Information sheets done for the public on how to begin and what is actually involved (some attempting self builds but unaware of what’s actually involved/housing estates were people have never build before if they didn’t buy off plans etc)

Complicated rebuilds eg semi detached properties, properties that share a chimney etc.Difficult builds eg semi detached properties where one is remaining, especially those that share a chimney. Removing foundations while the adjoining building remains? Slow laborious by hand work – will builders even take these jobs on?
End to end solutions – project planners, management teams, new startups to accommodate this kind of thing?
There is so much misinformation out there, so many rumours and it’s causing so much anxiety. Information is key! Doing up information sheets, posting on social media and doing videos and even holding information evenings would go a long way putting people at ease on a lot of issues, explaining how things work and putting the facts out there. It might sound far out of your norm or your comfort zone but lots of us are doing things we never in a million years thought we would be doing but we can do it! This is one of the things the Hub could do, to be a place where people can get accurate information on all of this. Solving these issues could mean a lot more people will be able to afford to rebuild and move on with their lives.
We are focusing on homes now but we have to also be mindful of the massive task ahead of rebuilding commercial, farm, community, private and public service buildings, septic tanks are another major problem. Reports are coming in of some leaking so environmentally this is a huge concern throughout the county.

Where can I find answers to my questions?
